South Suffolk Classic Cars at Glasswells...
Classic car lovers lined up yesterday (Sunday) in Glasswells, Ipswich car park, as they prepared to start the South Suffolk Classic car run.
The drizzly weather didn't deter the car enthusiasts as over 40 cars turned up bright and early for an 8.30am start at Glasswells' second largest store. There were many head turning classics from a 1914 Ford Model T and 1923 Rolls Royce Doctor's Coupe to a 1978 Aston Martin AMV8 Series IV and a pair of Mazda MX5s.
Paul Glasswell, Glasswells Managing Director started the run with cars following every one minute thereafter. He comments, "This is the second year running we have started the race from Glasswells, last year it was from the Bury store along Newmarket Road and the weather was somewhat different. Well done to all of the keen participants, we hope you enjoyed your day."
The cars followed a scenic route through the Suffolk countryside, travelling some 107 miles visiting the World War II Museum at Debach Airfield, the East Anglian Railway Museum at Chappel Station near Wakes Colne and onto Melford Hall in Long Melford and a short drive to the South Suffolk Show at Ampton, just outside Bury St. Edmunds.
The event was run by the Eastern Counties & West Suffolk Motor Clubs and was sponsored by Kerridges of Needham Market and Glasswells, the aim was to have as much fun as possible whilst raising funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
