Paul Glasswell at the site of the flood

Flood Takes Glasswells by Surprise… but Leads to More Discounts for Customers

The recent sudden downpours left Glasswells World of Furniture in Bury St. Edmunds quite sodden as gallons of water rushed up through the drains and flowed directly into the store.

Affecting the showroom atrium and the restaurant, nearly 100 people were quickly evacuated, leaving the rest of the browsers to stay deep within the store well away from the turmoil.

Paul Glasswell, managing director said, “It all happened so quickly, suddenly the carpet swelled up and there was a couple of inches of water covering a large area of the store and restaurant; we’ve seen nothing like it in the 17 years we have been here. All staff came to the rescue and helped move furniture and carpets and embarked on a huge mop up.”

The storm responsible for the damage occurred last Thursday when a 20 minute burst of rain hit the town. With this unusual volume of water generally the drains would struggle, however it was the addition of the rain flowing from the one and a half acre of roof space that added to the sheer velocity.

As a result of the flood, the store is offering heavily discounted flood damaged stock within the Bury store, just ask at reception.
