Hostel for homeless to be refurbished with help from Glasswells and its staff

Glasswells, East Anglia's leading home furnishings retailer, is helping refurbish a hostel for homeless people in Ipswich.

Highview House, which was opened three years ago in Belstead Road by Orwell Housing Association, is in desperate need of refurbishment. Step forward Glasswells, who are providing brand new carpets, underlay and vinyl flooring for all four floors, as part of the hostel's refurbishment.

Kind hearted staff from the Ranelagh Road showroom are giving up their own time to help stretch the project's limited refurbishment budget. They will rip out all the well-worn flooring from hallways, lounge and dining areas, staircases, landings, kitchens and bathrooms.

Vicci Smith, who manages the 17 bedroom hostel, said that the residents had a variety of needs. She said that some were single young people, others were vulnerable families and several had mental health or learning disabilities.

"We aim to provide a caring, warm and safe environment in which they can pick up the pieces of their lives," she explained. "It's a very necessary service that we're providing, and we're extremely grateful to Glasswells. What they are doing will make a huge difference to the quality of life here."

To minimise disruption, all refitting work is being completed in just one day, with several teams of carpet and flooring fitters working simultaneously.
