Kempson Way site being handed over from the builders to Paul Glasswell

Another Investment for Glasswells

In addition to their new home furnishings showroom in Ipswich, due to open later this year; Glasswells have invested a further £750,000 to extend their Bury St. Edmunds storage and distribution centre.

After just 5 months of building, the new extension at the Kempson Way site was officially handed over from the builders and architects to Paul Glasswell on 6th August.  Adding a further 10,000 sq ft, the storage and distribution centre now offers a total of 67,000 sq ft of dedicated storage space and, with relocated racking throughout the warehouse and an investment in  new narrower and ‘bendy’ forklift trucks, there is space for a further 1,000 pallets.

The primary objective of the extension is to support Glasswells’ new 73,000 sq ft Ipswich showroom, holding stock in readiness to deliver to customers, following the successful formula they have created for their Bury St. Edmunds, Haverhill, Martlesham Heath and Saffron Walden furniture outlets.

However, the additional pallet space will also allow Glasswells’ commercial storage business to grow, offering more contractual and warehousing services, a part of their business that has become increasingly popular over the years, storing everything from cars and tiles to clothing and glassware, in addition to commercial archiving.

Originally opened in 1999 when the company moved from their old warehouse in Tollgate Lane, Bury St Edmunds; the storage and distribution centre, complete with full security, moisture and temperature control and a hi-tech stock management system, has been extended twice, growing in size from 34,000 square feet. It also became the new home for the removals team; since, they have moved over 11,000 households, moving people throughout East Anglia to as far as Australia.

Paul Glasswell comments, “This investment, along with our existing fleet of 14 vehicles, will form a large part of the success of the Ipswich showroom and our storage business as a whole. It is also perfectly timed as we are experiencing a growing trend for more last minute household storage requirements; many individuals are calling on us to urgently store their goods in order to secure their house sale, moving out of their old homes and into rented accommodation whilst they wait for their own house purchase to be finalised. As always, our emphasis is on flexibility, cost effectiveness and the ability to react quickly to our customers’ needs, something we have become quite well known for over the years.”
