Times' Flying at Glasswells...
Glasswells World of Furniture gift buyer, David Warren is celebrating after 30 years of working for the company. David joined the company back in 1978 in furniture sales based at the Old Corn Exchange in Bury St. Edmunds town centre. Over time, and as the store grew in strength and size, he was transferred to different store locations selling everything from sofas and chairs to dining sets and accessories. |
David was soon introduced to the Display Manager; his job was to tour around the various stores creating room sets and ensuring the furniture displays were pristine as well as making necessary changes to reflect different promotions. David assisted the Display Manager from time to time and found that he had a flair for displaying and co-ordinating the furnishing products. Soon, the Display Manager position became vacant and David stepped into the role
Some years later David moved to the position of Soft Furnishings Manger within the Brentgovel Street store and then, in 1992, moved with the store to their new out of town World of Furniture store, along Newmarket Road. With so much more display space there was an opportunity to branch into other areas such as gifts and lighting, David purchased display accessories for these new departments and was soon given a new role of Gifts and Lighting Buyer.
Due to the tremendous success of the departments, they have trebled in size and extended into a large cookware department offering everything from saucepans to cutlery and electrical appliances.
Today David is still enjoying his role, he adds, “No day at Glasswells is ever the same and I think this is why time just flies by, I can’t believe it was been 30 years already. I must admit I really enjoy the challenges that the role brings and I gain great satisfaction from sourcing products to meet customers’ tastes and styles, and realising that they love the huge choice available to them. I try to offer something for everyone, you can find traditional items as well as something totally unique all under one roof and I really feel this is what sets Glasswells apart from the rest.”
